This year marks the 20th
anniversary of Neimen Song Jiang Battle Ritual and the event this year is held by Neimen Tzi Chu Temple which has a history of three centuries. Fengshan Administration Center, Kaohsiung City Government announced this afternoon (10th
of February) that the event this year would begin on the 22nd
of February. The event consists of both literary and martial arts battle ritual in Neimen District paying respect to Guanyin, Luo Han Men welcoming inspection from the God, which has been recognized by the Ministry of Culture as important folklore, Song Jiang Battle Ritual selection for the adult category, innovative folklore performance by students, international week and cultural trips. We welcome all citizens to join us in these exciting events, have fun outdoors and enjoy the buzz.
“The literary and martial arts parade leaders paying respect to Guanyin” on the 22nd
of February marks the series of Neimen Song Jiang Battle Ritual events. With the longstanding history, both the literary and martial arts battle rituals will wish Guanyin happy birthday and seek blessing, hoping for safety and prosperity for all citizens in this tough epidemic period. This is followed by 4 days of “Luo Han Men welcoming inspection from the God” on the 29th
February, which has been recognized by the Ministry of Culture as important folklore, as well as the 1st
of March. Guanyin will inspect the area with Luo Jiang Battle Ritual and other battle rituals in Neimen as guards, praying that the COVID-19 outbreak will stabilize soon, and that Taiwan would experience a peaceful and prosperous year.
Mr. Han Kuo-Yu, the Kaohsiung Mayor, stated that despite the prevalence of COVID-19, the city government is well prepared with the epidemic response and prevention and that the public can travel around at ease. The city government has placed special emphasis on the health and safety of all personnel during the event. During the event, those staff and vendors who will interact with the public are required to wear a mask. For the people in the adult category for the event as well as student participants, briefing on epidemic prevention and personal hygiene will be conducted. We also ask the public to assess their state of health before coming to the event and wear a mask when necessary. There are also hand sanitizing supplies such as soap in the public toilets at the event. Focusing on strengthening health, the Song Jiang Battle Ritual event will be held outdoors as planned. On the 29th
of February and 1st
of March; we will be hosting the national Song Jiang Battle Ritual selection for the adult category while on the 7th
of March we will invite student groups who had been participating in the Innovative Song Jiang Battle Ritual Competition in the past years, as well as emerging groups who show folklore potential to participate in the student innovative folklore performance.
Mr. Tsai Zhao-De, the chairman of Neimen Tzi Chu Temple, reaffirmed the support Kaohsiung City Government has given to Neimen Song Jiang Battle Ritual. He said that Guanyin is the symbol for salvage and the four days of Luo Han Men welcoming inspection from the God this year is even more meaningful as it demonstrates the power of belief and religion as well as the determination of people to work together to fight the epidemic. In addition, this year marks the 20th
anniversary of Kaohsiung Neimen having the Song Jiang Battle Ritual events. Neimen Song Jiang Battle Ritual has always been one of the key festivals that the Tourism Bureau, Ministry of Transportation and Communications actively promotes on the international stage and was an international grade that was even shortlisted in the “Taiwan Tourism Events”. Since its creation, Song Jiang Battle Ritual focuses on strengthening the body and protect the neighborhood. As a result, the Song Jiang Battle Ritual master from Tzi Chu Temple will be demonstrating three moves from Song Jiang Battle Ritual to help in the fight against the epidemic. He also hopes that the public will remain healthy when fighting the epidemic.
The city government is hoping that the Neimen Song Jiang Battle Ritual will help to bring energy and business for the tourism industry.
