Step into a sugar factory to get a closer look at the historical trajectory of sugar industry culture.
The Kaohsiung City Government and Taiwan Sugar Corporation launched a renovation plan in 2018 to give this historical landmark a new life. With "simple, natural, and easy to use" as the core principles, they retained the original historic buildings and environmental characteristics of the sugar factory and combined agriculture, cultural and creative industries, tourism, and experience, which ultimately led to the birth of the "Nine Districts of East Kaohsiung Service Station - Cishan Agri Park."
Explore the century-old sugar factory and enter the tunnel of time.
Located on the banks of the Nanzixian River and surrounded by mountains and waters, Cishan Agri Park boasts vast green spaces and century-old trees, creating a serene environment full of historical charm. The Park has fully preserved the classic buildings of the sugar industry era, including red brick warehouses, lime kilns, bronze chimneys, Japanese-style offices, and sugar factories symbolizing the glory of the sugar industry, making people feel as if they have traveled back to the prosperous times of the past.
Among them, the repaired sugar factory has officially opened for visitors, and visitors can enter with invoices for consumption within the park. The building displays sugar-making equipment from a hundred years ago, presenting the complete process of how sugarcane was transformed into cane sugar, allowing people to personally experience the changes in the rise and fall of the sugar industry.
(The regulations for visiting sugar factories are mainly based on the on-site park announcement.)
Experience local flavors and innovative craftsmanship through agricultural and cultural innovation.
Nowadays, the Cishan Agri Park is not only a carrier of historical memory but also an innovative base that combines agricultural product exhibition and sales, agricultural processing, and creative tourism, promoting the local characteristics of the Cishan and Meinong region. The "Daqimei Retail Store" within the park is an unmissable highlight store, which gathers high-quality agricultural products and green agricultural cultural and creative goods from Cishan and surrounding areas, allowing travelers to bring back souvenirs with unique local characteristics.
Of course, when it comes to the classic flavor of sugar factories, it is not impossible to go to the "Cishan Sugar Factory Ice Shop" to buy a popsicle and taste it! The most comfortable experience for tourists here is sitting under the big trees in the park, admiring the quiet steam train standing in the park, and enjoying ice cream while feeling the gentle breeze.
The Cishan Agri Park has successfully transformed the century-old sugar factory into a diversified tourism base that combines historical culture, agricultural innovation, and leisure tourism. When you come to Cishan in Kaohsiung, not only do you visit the old streets, but also don't forget to explore the new style of this century-old sugar factory and experience a different kind of in-depth tourism.
