Introduction
Constructed in 1917, this was one of the three major wireless communications stations built in Taiwan in the Japanese Colonial Era. After the National Government moved to Taiwan, it became a military-run facility used for interrogation and as a prison in the White Terror. It was made a national heritage site due to the rarity of its military architecture and its deep, far-reaching influence on Taiwanese history. The elegant red bricks and black tiles of the Japanese-style structure and forbidding remains of military communications equipment are popular with military buffs and photographers.
