Reading Kaohsiung. Reading the World The Kaohsiung We've Yet to Know. The World We've Yet to Explore.
A book is a window looking outward, expanding our understanding of the world. Bookstores and libraries are places where we connect with the world.
This edition of the Kaohsiung City Book Fair focuses on exploration, inviting local bookstores and libraries in Kaohsiung to share their worldviews. It starts with a question from a book, finds inspiration from a book, and seeks direction from a book. In an era where information is superficial and anxiety is immense, it's hoped that people will find a steady strength and a deeper experience through reading, reaching back to the roots.
This year, we also invite theater groups, musicians, poets from home and abroad, and local traditional craftsmen, among other interdisciplinary creators, to gather in Kaohsiung. They will visit bookstores, art spaces, and campuses, showcasing the rich inner energy of Kaohsiung to the readers. "Reading" is not limited to books; it encompasses understanding and appreciating music, paintings, cities, and people. The curators also pose a question, inviting speakers from afar to share their perspectives on Kaohsiung and port cities, and to engage in dialogues with the citizens of Kaohsiung.
The 2023 Kaohsiung City Book Fair will be a feast of thought driven by the entire city.
The book fair begins on November 11 and lasts until the 28th, featuring book exhibitions, poetry festivals, markets, art performances, film festivals, and over a hundred lectures.
This reading event hopes not only to let visitors read books but also to read a city.
