In promotion of Kaohsiung’s 38 tourist districts, the city’s new bear mascot “Kaohsiung Hero” embarked a trip on the 30th from Fengyi Tutorial Academy in Fengshan District, Kaohsiung.

A press conference entitled “A Bear’s Trip to Kaohsiung’s 38 Tourist Districts” was held to mark the beginning of the trip. Kaohsiung Tourism Bureau Director Hsu Chuan-sheng and Fengshan District Magistrate Liu Sheng-yuan went to send their support to Kaohsiung Hero, while putting on a scarf and a cowboy’s hat for it. They asked the mascot to stay safe while traveling, as if they were its caring fathers. “I expect Kaohsiung Hero to appreciate the city’s tourist spots from an enriching perspective, and share its findings on its Facebook page during the trip,” the bureau head said.

Liu gave the mascot some Chishan cakes, a Fengshan specialty. The magistrates of the 38 districts will all introduce their areas when the mascot visits them, and Liu is the first such “tour guide.” Liu said that Fengyi Tutorial Academy is the oldest of its kind in Taiwan and was used as a site for holding preliminary government officer qualification exams. Hence it makes a great starting point of the trip.

At the press conference, while a song entitled “Beautiful Fengshan” was played, Kaohsiung Bear went down the podium to play with children and lead the attendants to explore some interactive artistic installations there. Accompanied by the bureau director and the district magistrate, the bear then went to the City God Temple to ask for blessings for this trip.

A limited number of cards, especially designed by professional illustrators  and featuring Kaohsiung’s scenic spots, will be sent to visitors for free. 100 such cards will be distributed in each district – only after the cards are all given to people may the bear move to the next district.

All interested members of the public are cordially invited to explore greater Kaohsiung with Kaohsiung Hero.
