高雄市圖總館勇奪2016年全球卓越建設獎首獎
Kaohsiung Public Library will soon receive the grand prize of the 2016 FIABCI World Prix D’excellence Awards in the Public Infrastructure/ Amenities Category on the 26th in Panama City, not long after it won the first place of the “2015 Must-Visit Libraries in Taiwan.”

Among competitors from 42 countries in the world, the Kaohsiung City Government received much acknowledgement for this Kaohsiung Public Library Construction Project. Head of Kaohsiung’s Public Works Bureau Chao Chien-chiao will go overseas to receive this glorious international prize on the government’s behalf.

FIABCI World Prix D’excellence Awards is held by the International Real Estate Federation. Founded in 1948 and presently headquartered in Paris, France, the federation operates under the UN’s Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific and provides consulting services to NGOs with support from its expert members from all over the world. FIABCI World Prix D’excellence Awards is the federation’s major event and is hailed as the Oscars of the global architecture community. Since 1992 it has been held 24 times.

Chao noted that the Real Estate Association of R.O.C. holds the FIABCI-Taiwan Real Estate Excellence Awards every year. The winners of this awards then compete with contestants from around the world at the FIABCI World Prix D’excellence Awards on behalf of Taiwan. Kaohsiung received FIABCI’s Excellence Award and Grand Prize in the Environmental Rehabilitation/Conservation Category with its Shezihlinpi Wetland Park and Jhongdu Wetland Park, respectively in 2011 and 2012. This is the first time Kaohsiung participated in the Environmental Rehabilitation/Conservation Category. The winning of the grand prize in this category proves again that the city government’s construction team is up to par with the global standards, as the judges of this competition are the world’s best expert and scholars in this field.

An important project of the Asia New Bay Area, the library has actually received quite a few awards since completion, and the city government is grateful for these acknowledgements. Following the Kaohsiung Exhibition Center and the library, Maritime Cultural & Popular Music Center, Circular Line and Kaohsiung Port Terminal will all soon be inaugurated to boost the area’s development. The city government looks forward to making Kaohsiung one of the world’s most livable cities.
