Ahead of all other cities in the country, Kaohsiung showed off its latest pride, a double-decker tourism bus a while ago. Now in test run in the Asia New Bay Area, with its bright colors and open-air design, the bus has drawn plenty of passengers.

On the 12th, Kaohsiung City Mayor Chen Chu also took an evening ride and was impressed. “Kaohsiung looks all the more beautiful at night, although I believe any time in a day is a good time to take this bus. I would like to invite all to try this out and view our city from an unusual angle.”

The mayor said while introducing the bus to Kaohsiung, her team experienced difficulties. With support from the central government, the bus has finally hit the road and added more fun to the bay zone.
The mayor went on to say that the bus is not only the first flow-floor double-decker bus in Taiwan but also the first that meets the EU emission standards, making it a symbol of advancement of Kaohsiung. It is also accessible to the mentally and physically challenged and elders. With safety systems such as EBS (electronic broking services), EPS (electronic power shift), kneeling system, LDWS (lane departure warning system) and FCWS (forward collision warming system), the bus is sure to give passengers a safe and smooth ride.

On the upper deck of the bus are 44 seats including special-design sofa chairs. On the lower deck are 10 more seats. A tour guide will accompany the passengers through each ride. The bus is equipped with hand-held foreign-language audio guides in English, Japanese and Korean, too, introducing the scenic spots on auto-play. More language versions may be offered in the near future.

The bus will move into full operation at the end of this year. It follows two routes at the initial operation stage, starting from Dream Mall and passing by all of the important tourist spots of Kaohsiung such as Pier-2 Art Center, Hamxing, Kaohsiung Exhibition Center, City Light Gallery, Kaohsiung Museum of History, and Formosa Boulevard Station. Again, all visitors are welcome to take the bus to immerse in Kaohsiung's views.
