Kaohsiung’s Hero (bear), Oh Bear and Kumamon have been painted on China Airlines’ planes! China Airlines, Kaohsiung City Government and Ministry of Transport and Communications, working with Japan’s Kumamoto Prefecture Government, just launched the Three Bear Friends (airplane) which will depart for the first time on May 26, 2017. The flight will fly to Kumamoto every Wednesday from then on. Kaohsiung City Mayor Chen Chu attended the inauguration ceremony on the 19th and thanked China Airlines for choosing to fly from Kaohsiung. She also looks forward to fostering exchange with Kumamoto and welcomes more visitors to take flights which arrive in or depart from Kaohsiung.

To promote tourism in Taiwan and Japan, Flight 737-800 now has the mascots of Taiwan, Kaohsiung and Kumamoto on it. Mayor Chen, the airline’s president Ho Nuan-hsuan, and the director of the Kumamoto City Affairs Marketing Division under the Transport Policy Bureau, Fujii Kazue, unveiled the new plane together.

The three bears drew much attention as soon as they went to the stage. They then danced with China Airlines’ flight attendants to celebrate the launch of the colored plane. Mayor Chen spoke to Kumamoto’s governor Ikuo Kabashima through a video chat and sent her greetings. The governor thanked Taiwan for sending aid to Kumamoto after it was hit by an earthquake last year. The mayor sent a traditional Taiwanese blessings talisman to cheer for Kumamoto.

Mayor Chen said that Kaohsiung is an international city with convenient transport. Its airport is only 20 minutes away from the downtown by car, and it is quite easy to go to other cities by air. Kaohsiung is definitely a great choice for business visitors and tourists.

Kaohsiung and Kumamoto are almost like sister cities, according to the mayor. For a long time, they have enjoyed a good relationship. The tourism sector of quake-stricken Kumamoto is still recovering at this moment. The new plane marks both cities’ effort in restoring Kumamoto’s tourism industry. At the end of the event, Mayor Chen thanked China Airlines again for choosing to fly from Kaohsiung to Kumamoto, and said she looks forward to seeing the company set up more flights from her city in the near future.
