Chengcing Lake is a renowned scenic spot in Kaohsiung attracting millions of tourists every year. The Taiwan Water Corporation has opened it free of charge to the citizens of Kaohsiung since 2013. Every year, the City Government has invested in improving its antiquated facilities and discovering new attractions with promising developments. The Happiness Garden, Freshwater Aquarium, Fuguo Island Suspension Bridge and other facilities are in the planning stage for further upgrading. The largest maze garden in Taiwan, a new addition to the Lake area, will add to its appeal for local families and tourists.
According to the Tourism Bureau, more than NT$24 million has been allocated in the past year to redevelopping 0.6 hectares of green space (previously a riding stable) into a forest maze experience zone. This maze garden is the largest of its kind in Taiwan, and has four special features. Firstly, a hedge has been planted with orchid trees and golden dewdrops, resembling a pair of green mandarin ducks when seen from high above.
The other three features include: the Hobbit House, built to its likeness in the movie "Lord of the Rings"; the colorful maze made with giant drainage culverts (some of them reach 120 cm in diameter) where children can roam and explore freely, and the picnic area that has family friendly seating, where families can relax and dine on the spacious grassland, and have fun among the millstone slides and turfs.
The maze garden will be maintained and managed by the Taiwan Water Corporation. When it re-opens to the public, it will provide citizens with a place for family recreation and ecological education. Everyone is welcome to visit the Chengcing Lake, the ideal location for some enjoyable family time, or picture taking among its beautiful scenery.
