Kaohsiung tourism advertisements are now displayed at the important stations of the Keihan Railway in Kansai, Japan. Since May of this year, Kaohsiung tourism images have been successfully displayed at important stations of the “Keihan Electric Railway Co., Ltd.,” which connects Osaka and Kyoto and transports nearly 300 million passengers annually. The Director of the Tourism Bureau of Kaohsiung City Government expresses that through resources sharing and cross-border cooperation between Kaohsiung Rapid Transit Corp. and the Keihan Electric Railway Co., Ltd., a significant number of advertising spaces, such as platforms and ticket booths, at key transportation hubs of the Keihan Railway are secured for reaching a wide audience of Japanese passengers, and promoting Kaohsiung's image and attractions through extensive exposure. It aims to deepen the impression of Japanese people on Kaohsiung, market Kaohsiung tourism more actively, and attract more Japanese tourists to visit Kaohsiung.

Director Kao Min-lin points out that following the conclusion of the “Taiwan-Japan Tourism Summit” in Nagoya, Aichi Prefecture, the Tourism Bureau immediately convened official meetings, exchanges, and on-site inspections with the Kaohsiung Rapid Transit Corp. over three consecutive days, focusing on the topics of “sustainable tourism” and “railway tourism.”During the official visit to the Keihan Electric Railway headquarters, there was also an in-depth discussion regarding the proposed plan “Journey of Illuminating Taiwanese and Japanese Attractions,” hoping to achieve mutually beneficial cooperation among the three parties. The goal is to jointly promote city images, tourist attractions, culture and history, natural landscapes, and other elements that resonate with shared similarities or narratives between Taiwan and Japan, appealing to travelers from both Taiwan and Japan. For example, Kaohsiung's Formosa Boulevard Station, which compares to Kyoto's Arashiyama Station, Kaohsiung's Suzuka Circuit Park and Japan's Hirakata Park, Kaohsiung's Shoushan Zoo and “Kyoto City Zoo,” as well as Kaohsiung's Fongshan Old Town and Dragon and Tiger Pagodas contrasted to the historically rich Osaka Castle in Japan. Important facilities and attractions along the Keihan Railway line were visited at the same time to learn how rail transportation can drive tourism.

The Tourism Bureau and Kaohsiung Rapid Transit Corp. also visited Tokyu Railways in the Kanto region to learn about railway tourism and sustainable travel, and to actively explore trilateral cooperation. Tokyu Railways is an important transportation operator in Tokyo, with approximately 2.75 million daily passengers. Prior to the pandemic, its annual transportation capacity exceeded 1.18 billion passengers. Kao Min-lin points out that Tokyu Railways, in line with urban planning, promotes "public transportation-oriented development" or supplements it with "private sector participation in public construction" to develop land along railway lines in three dimensions: transportation, tourism, and accommodation. This includes the integration of department stores with stations, hotels, and tourist facilities such as the "Shibuya SKY” observation deck, which stimulates the development of the surrounding area. The Group's railway transportation and accommodation industries, among others, strive to operate in accordance with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, making it a valuable source of learning for Kaohsiung.

Kao Min-lin expresses her hope that the cooperation model between Kaohsiung Rapid Transit Corp. and Nippon Travel Agency, West Japan Railway Company, and Keihan Railway in Kansai, as well as the "Kaohsiung experience" can be expanded to the Kanto region and initiate trilateral cross-border cooperation. Through the exchange of tourism image advertisements and joint marketing efforts, Kaohsiung's international tourism can shine brightly along the heavily visited Tokyu Railways lines.

Yoshihiro Hirakawa, President of Keihan Electric Railway Co., Ltd. explains, "it is a great honor to have the Tourism Bureau of Kaohsiung City Government and Kaohsiung Rapid Transit Corp. visiting us.
