Kaohsiung Tourism Ranks First Nationally, Recognized by Agoda and Global Views Monthly Magazine! Exciting Events Unfolding

Global Views Monthly magazine recently released its "2024 County and City Mayors' Governance Satisfaction Survey," in which Kaohsiung City Mayor Chen Chi-Mai achieved a five-star rating. In terms of tourism, Kaohsiung's tourism satisfaction ranked highest in the country, claiming the top spot. Tourism Bureau Director Kao Min-Lin stated that the bureau actively creates a friendly travel environment in Kaohsiung, continuously improving scenic areas, guiding the accommodation industry and campsites to enhance both hardware and software service quality. Through industry-academia collaboration, they create cross-industry partnerships. By organizing events such as the Kaohsiung Lantern Festival, the Yellow Duck installation, unique themed and food events, and numerous large-scale concerts, they have attracted massive crowds. Kaohsiung was recognized by Agoda, an international booking platform, as the only Taiwanese city to be listed among "Asia's Most Affordable and Fun" destinations. It has also won the Tourism Administration's National Accommodation Industry Management Performance Evaluation award for excellence six times. Furthermore, in response to sustainable tourism development and net-zero policy goals, Kaohsiung pioneered a gender-friendly accommodation certification system and continues to promote eco-friendly accommodations, aligning with post-pandemic international tourism market trends and enthusiasm. The Kaohsiung Lantern Festival at the beginning of the year, featuring the Yellow Duck, generated the highest online buzz among the six special municipalities' lantern festivals. It attracted over 9 million domestic and international visitors to Kaohsiung, bringing in an impressive 14 billion NTD in economic value. Furthermore, the series of large-scale concerts by domestic and international superstars continued. In 2023, Kaohsiung hosted over 117 concerts, attracting more than 1.39 million people. Kaohsiung's accommodation and dining sales reached a record-breaking 92.9 billion NTD! From January to May this year, over 66 concerts were held, bringing in more than 780,000 tourist visits and over 2.5 billion NTD in tourism revenue.
To implement the Mayor's governance philosophy that "progress has no end, limits can be surpassed, and Kaohsiung is a city that dares to seek innovation and change, challenging unlimited possibilities," the city is not only attracting visitors through highlight events but also actively engaging in optimization and renewal. In terms of construction, since last year, comprehensive planning and feasibility assessments have been conducted for Love River Bay and Cijin. Multiple explanatory meetings have been held for local residents and tourism accommodation operators to gain support and recognition, proposing the "Bay Area Harbor, Cijin Leading" plan. This year, the Tourism Administration of Ministry of Transportation and Communications approved a budget of 492 million NTD for the 2024-2027 competitive "Important Corridor Highlight Creation Plan." Simultaneously, the Siaogangshan Skywalk Park, Lotus Pond, and Guanyin Mountain environmental improvement projects were also recognized by the Tourism Administration's 2024-2025 "Scenic Spot Optimization and Value-Added Plan," with an approved budget of 108.5 million NTD. These projects will transform the tourism environments of important scenic areas such as Cijin, Love River Bay, Lotus Pond, and Siaogangshan Skywalk Park, allowing Kaohsiung's tourism to lead Taiwan and leap onto the international stage.
The Tourism Bureau is promoting accommodation guidance plans to enhance the quality of lodging experiences. This includes launching the nation's first gender-friendly accommodation guidance and certification system, organizing a series of "Sustainable Tourism Power" empowerment lectures, Muslim certification, eco-friendly accommodations, and star-rated hotel evaluations. Not only has it won the Tourism Administration's "National Excellence in Accommodation Guidance" honor, but Kaohsiung City currently has 40 "star-rated hotels," the highest number in the country. Moreover, the bureau is actively promoting transparency in accommodation information while also inspecting hotels' software and hardware services and room rates. From 2023 to May of this year, a total of 2,114 establishments were inspected, covering 3,730 rooms. This ensures that domestic and international travelers have sufficient information to choose hotels while enjoying high-quality accommodation and travel experiences.
