To promote international tourism, the Tourism Bureau of Kaohsiung City Government is actively expanding into Northeast Asian and Southeast Asian travel markets to attract more international visitors. In addition to holding a tourism promotion event in Korea in September, the Kaohsiung City Tourism Bureau has also collaborated with the Tourism Administration, travel agencies, and hotels to invite tourism operators and influencers from Malaysia, the Philippines, and Thailand to Kaohsiung during the summer for familiarization tours. These tours allow visitors to experience the city's charm, food culture, and natural scenery. Simultaneously, they launched the "2024 Accommodation Incentive Plan for International Group Travelers to Kaohsiung" to increase Kaohsiung's exposure in the international travel market and attract more international visitors.

Kao Min-Lin, Director of the Tourism Bureau of Kaohsiung City Government, stated that Southeast Asian countries, especially Malaysia, represent a high-growth potential international tourism market. From January to May 2024, Kaohsiung has already welcomed 22,405 visitors from Malaysia, indicating high interest in this market. To expand the Muslim tourism market, the Kaohsiung City Tourism Bureau collaborated with the Tourism Administration of the Ministry of Transportation and Communications and Kangfu Travel Agency to organize two Muslim familiarization tours. These tours attracted over 10 KOLs with a combined following of 4 million fans, leveraging their social media influence to market the diverse attractions of Kaohsiung and southern Taiwan. The familiarization tours visited attractions such as Shoushan Zoo, Weiwuying, Asia New Bay Area, Hamasen, Yancheng, Cijin, Shinkuchan Shopping District, and Rueifeng Night Market. They also arranged visits to Kaohsiung Mosque, the Great Harbor Bridge rotation show, and various culinary experiences.

Kao Min-Lin further explained that the Tourism Bureau and businesses are working together to create a Muslim-friendly travel environment. Currently, 15 accommodation and dining establishments have obtained Halal Certification, providing accommodation and meals that meet Muslim requirements. Venues like E-DA Theme Park have also obtained relevant certifications for Muslim-friendly environments. At the same time, the Tourism Bureau has completed the installation of "bidet spray" in public toilets at important scenic areas and recreational spots such as Sizihwan, Lotus Pond, Chengcing Lake, Cijin, Jinshi Lake, and Shoushan Zoo. This not only meets the prayer needs of Muslim travelers but also makes them feel at home when visiting Kaohsiung. It is hoped that after returning to their home countries, the familiarization tour participants will package more quality travel products featuring Kaohsiung, allowing more friends from Southeast Asia to experience Kaohsiung's delicious food, beautiful scenery, and warm hospitality.

In addition to actively expanding the Muslim market, Malaysian Chinese are also an important target group for Kaohsiung's international visitors. The Tourism Bureau has specially cooperated with Hwafu Travel Service to invite local Chinese tourism operators to organize tours to Kaohsiung, visiting famous attractions such as the Asia New Bay Area and Fo Guang Shan Buddha Museum, and tasting Kaohsiung's military dependents' village cuisine like sauerkraut and pork hot pot, experiencing the unique charm of southern Taiwan. Liao Yingdian, Chairman of Hwafu Travel Service, stated that Malaysian tourism operators had very positive feedback about this Kaohsiung trip, fully experiencing Kaohsiung's enthusiasm and diverse culture. Kaohsiung not only has modern urban landscapes and rich historical and cultural heritage but also offers diverse cuisine and a comfortable travel environment. In the future, they will strongly promote Kaohsiung as the top destination for Malaysian Chinese travelers.

On another note, there's good news about the resumption of international flights to Kaohsiung. Cebu Pacific Air from the Philippines resumed its "Manila-Kaohsiung" route in August. The Kaohsiung City Tourism Bureau actively cooperated with Welcome Wonder Travel to organize Philippine tourism operators and influencers to take the inaugural flight to Kaohsiung for a familiarization tour. They also collaborated with Fullon Hotel Kaohsiung and Kaohsiung Marriott Hotel to help Philippine operators gain an in-depth understanding of Kaohsiung's culture, attractions, cuisine, and tourism resources. Cebu Pacific Air plans to upgrade its aircraft from the 180-seat A320 to the 236-seat A321 neo starting October 27, to meet the growing passenger demand between the two destinations. This demonstrates the enormous potential of Kaohsiung's tourism market and aims to attract more international visitors.

To capture the Thai tourist market, the Kaohsiung City Tourism Bureau held a tourism promotion event in Bangkok last October. Recently, they collaborated with Kaohsiung Ahotel to invite Thai influencers "RattoWanderlust" and first-time Taiwan visitor "Imm Mhee" to tour Kaohsiung. They visited attractions like Shoushan Zoo. The popular influencer Ratto was particularly impressed by her interaction with Boer goats and the experience at the Skywalk, and praised the design of Yamagataya Bookstore. She expressed her joy at revisiting Kaohsiung and exploring the city's charm in depth. Through these Thai influencers' social media impact, more of Kaohsiung's tourism highlights will be shared with Thai travel enthusiasts, further enhancing Kaohsiung's reputation in the Thai market and attracting more international tourists.

The Tourism Bureau explained that to accelerate and expand the attraction of international visitors to Taiwan, the Tourism Bureau of Kaohsiung City Government has launched the "2024 Accommodation Incentive Plan for International Group Travelers to Kaohsiung". Groups of 15 or more international tourists visiting two local Kaohsiung attractions and staying in legal Kaohsiung accommodations for two days and one night can apply for a group subsidy of 400 TWD per person per night, for up to two nights, regardless of weekday or weekend. This is expected to encourage more travel agencies to organize tours to Kaohsiung for overseas visitors.

As the international gateway to southern Taiwan, Kaohsiung not only has direct flights but also hosts weekly large-scale events like the Rubber Duck and Ocean Party, as well as concerts by internationally renowned superstars. Kaohsiung has become the top choice for traveling in Taiwan. Besides touring Kaohsiung, visitors can also easily visit attractions and events in Tainan, Pingtung, Taitung, and other parts of southern Taiwan. The Tourism Bureau is working hand in hand with the aviation industry, travel agencies, hotels, and other tourism sectors. This public-private cooperation, combined with social media promotion, actively enhances Kaohsiung's international visibility, attracting more international visitors to Kaohsiung and promoting the development of the tourism economy in the southern Taiwan region.
