When it comes to beating the summer heat, splashing around in water is always a top pick! This May, the Kaohsiung City Government’s Tourism Bureau has teamed up with the Liugui Tourism and Leisure Association to launch the limited-time Mountain Water Park — a refreshing new travel option for summer getaways. According to Tourism Bureau Director Kao Min-lin, every Saturday and Sunday from 1 PM to 5 PM throughout May, a giant inflatable waterslide and splash pool will be set up at the Baolai Second Parking Lot. It’s a fun-filled experience for both adults and kids to cool off in the mountain breeze and enjoy water play in a scenic setting. Visitors simply need to present a same-day receipt showing a minimum of NT$500 spent in Liugui to enjoy all the water activities for free. The event site will also feature a lively market offering local agricultural products, delicious foods, and hands-on DIY crafts. Everyone is invited to gather in Liugui to take in the natural beauty, enjoy splashing fun, and explore a vibrant mountain summer like no other.

Tourism Bureau Director Kao Min-lin highlighted that East Kaohsiung, often referred to as the “Back Garden of Kaohsiung,” boasts abundant natural resources. In addition to the well-known Baolai and Bulao hot spring areas, the region also dazzles visitors each year with blooming pink trumpet trees, plum blossoms, and mahogany flowers. The area’s native mountain tea is also a favorite among both domestic and international travelers. The Mountain Water Park event, jointly launched by the Tourism Bureau and the Liugui Tourism and Leisure Association, invites visitors to splash, slide, and soak in the fun every Saturday and Sunday in May from 1 PM to 5 PM in Baolai. It’s the perfect way for families and friends to beat the heat together. Beyond the water fun, Liugui offers a wide array of cultural and natural attractions, including Shenwei Tiantaishan, Diyan Temple, the Eighteen Arhats Mountain Scenic Area (Shiba Luohanshan Scenic Area), the Heart of Liugui, and the enchanting Butterfly Valley. With its year-round scenic beauty, Liugui is an ideal destination for family trips, where visitors can explore the wonders of nature and local heritage. A summer visit not only means refreshing water play, but also a chance to hike, unwind, and recharge in a tranquil mountain setting.

Liugui’s hot springs are renowned far and wide. The area is home to two major hot spring zones—Baolai and Bulao—both featuring mildly alkaline sodium bicarbonate spring water. Known for its silky texture and skin-rejuvenating effects, the water has earned the nickname “Beauty Hot Spring.” It even received the “Best Value Award” at the Taiwan Hot Spring Gold Awards for offering exceptional quality at great value. In addition to soaking in these rejuvenating waters, visitors can extend their journey to explore the surrounding regions of Maolin, Taoyuan, and Namasia. These areas offer lush mountain retreats and authentic indigenous cultural experiences—perfect for embracing the laid-back charm of eastern Kaohsiung and discovering a slower, more soulful way of travel.

The Tourism Bureau further explained that visitors who present proof of purchase totaling NT$500 or more in Liugui on any Saturday or Sunday in May can enjoy free access to the Mountain Water Park. Guests who take photos and check in at the event site on social media will also receive a limited-edition non-woven tote bag—available while supplies last. To help visitors connect more deeply with Liugui’s rich natural ecology, the Bureau has also curated two special guided eco-tours. The daytime Baselan Creek Waterfall Hidden Trail Tour takes participants on a journey along the scenic Baselan Creek trail, led by expert guides who highlight the area's diverse ecological features. At night, the Baolai Night Adventure Tour offers an immersive exploration of the historical Pulai Creek Trail, where visitors can discover cultural relics and observe the region’s unique nocturnal ecosystem—an unforgettable adventure into the wild side of Liugui.
