Introduction
Iida Toyoji was from Shizuoka Prefecture, and was an engineer in charge of constructing the Pingtung railway line in the Japanese Colonial Era. He fell ill during the difficult work of constructing the railroad bridge over Tamsui River (today's old railway bridge), and died at the age of 40. His friends raised money to construct a memorial after he died, and buried his remains 100m north of Jioucyutang (Jiuqutang) Railway Station.
