Duona Village (Settlement) is the most remote village in Maolin District. Surrounded by mountains, it enjoys ample supplies of water, and fertile land has attracted many Rukai people here to settle. It is also one of Taiwan's oldest aboriginal settlements. The Rukai still build their traditional slate houses, warm in winter and cool in summer, and slate houses can still be seen in the settlement, amply illustrating the wisdom of the Indigenous peoples.
