Kaohsiung Chengcing Lake Scenic Area is now fully open with free admission! Formerly managed by the Waterworks Corporation, the Chengcing Lake Scenic Area has officially been transferred to the Kaohsiung City Government as of July 1 and is now fully accessible without an entrance fee, making it the top summer destination for Kaohsiung residents.
To encourage more locals and visitors to enjoy this urban oasis, the city government is launching a series of exciting events on August 9, including “Fun Kite Coloring Party for Families” and “Kaohsiung Bear Flash Mission.” Additional highlights include themed food trucks and the appearance of the city’s tourism police on horseback. Chengcing Lake is no longer just a nostalgic scenic spot; it has transformed into a vibrant, all-ages destination that combines leisure, dining, and entertainment.

Kaohsiung Tourism Bureau Director Gao Minlin stated that Chengcing Lake is a collective memory for the people of Kaohsiung. To revitalize this urban oasis in the city center and actively promote its transformation, the city government team, under Mayor Chen Chi-mai’s leadership, quickly completed cross-departmental resource integration. Following the transfer of management, priority was given to improving existing infrastructure, including upgrading pedestrian walkways and leveling roads around the lake, comprehensively enhancing the comfort of visitors.
Going forward, Chengcing Lake will continue to undergo overall updates and introduce more interactive and experiential activities, ensuring surprises throughout all four seasons and establishing the lake as a truly shared green space for the citizens.

Gao Minlin pointed out that the first event of the week, on Saturday, August 9, is the Tourism Bureau–hosted “Kaohsiung Bear Flash Mission”, led by the city’s adorable mascot, Kaohsiung Bear. The event also features the city police’s stylish Tourism Mounted Police team, allowing visitors to take photos and interact with them at Chengcing Lake. During summer vacation, the mounted police can be seen at the park every Saturday morning from 9:00 to 11:00 and Sunday afternoon from 15:00 to 17:00.
In addition, on August 9, the Education Bureau will hold the “Fun Kite Coloring Party for Families” at the Maze Garden, inviting elementary and kindergarten children to express their creativity and add vibrant colors to the kites.

The Tourism Bureau added that during summer vacation, every Saturday from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Chengcing Lake Scenic Area will feature 3 to 4 specialty food trucks stationed at the lake’s tea area. Visitors can enjoy everything from refreshing cold drinks to popular desserts and light snacks, creating a leisurely afternoon by the shaded lakeside.
